Building Automation Project Engineer – Tampa, FL

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Building Automation Project Engineer to join our engineering team based in Tampa, Florida. In this role, you’ll help design and deliver advanced automation solutions for a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.

You’ll work on projects that integrate HVAC, lighting, energy management, and access control systems into efficient, connected environments. This position combines hands-on technical expertise with project leadership — ensuring systems are designed, programmed, and commissioned to perform seamlessly.

Compensation

• Salary Range: $90,000 – $110,000 annually
• Additional: Relocation assistance and signing bonuses available for highly qualified candidates

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, and implement Building Automation Systems (BAS) based on project specifications and performance goals
• Integrate multiple building systems — including HVAC, lighting, and energy platforms — using open communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks
• Create detailed system drawings, wiring diagrams, and control sequences
• Configure and program controllers, sensors, and field devices
• Participate in system commissioning, testing, and validation activities
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting to field operations and client teams
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety codes, and regulatory requirements
• Stay up to date with emerging BAS technologies and energy efficiency practices

Qualifications

• Proven experience in building automation or controls engineering
• Familiarity with Niagara, Distech, or AutoCAD platforms
• Strong understanding of HVAC system design, energy management, and building operations
• Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks protocols
• Excellent diagnostic, communication, and coordination skills
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical experience
• Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site system support and commissioning
