Controls and Automation Engineer

Vantage Consulting support a portfolio of End clients, Engineering Firms, OEMs and Integrators with Automation and Controls Engineers on long term contract assignments. We have an opening with a global manufacturing client on site in Newark, New Jersey. This is a 6 month contract to direct role for an ambitious Controls Engineer looking to progress their career by leading PLC programming, system integration, and instrumentation support for capital projects. No C2C.

Overview:

Seeking a Controls and Automation Engineer to lead PLC programming, system integration, and instrumentation support for capital projects at a manufacturing site. This role also establishes site-wide standards for automation equipment and software, and provides training and technical support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop functional specs and PLC logic for projects
• Design and document control systems (schematics, panel layouts, PLC code, HMI, SCADA)
• Implement upgrades using modern PLCs and protocols (OPC-UA, UDTs, function blocks)
• Work with integrators and internal teams to deploy Emerson, Ignition, and GE Cimplicity systems
• Troubleshoot automation issues and recommend fixes
• Lead start-up, commissioning, and documentation for new systems
• Oversee instrument calibration and motor control systems
• Support IT/OT cybersecurity and maintain version control
• Supervise contractors and train technicians
• Manage project cost control and process improvements

Requirements:

• Degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 10+ years in automation project leadership
• 3+ years in PLC/HMI/SCADA development and commissioning
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, Python, MS SQL, Emerson, Ignition, and GE Cimplicity a plus
