Instrumentation Engineer

Title: Instrumentation Designer

Location: Tewksbury, MA

Salary: Up to $120,000

We are seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in instrumentation and control systems across industries such as life sciences, chemical manufacturing, and environmental remediation. This role involves end-to-end responsibility for designing, specifying, procuring, and implementing instrumentation systems from concept through commissioning.

You’ll collaborate with internal teams, clients, vendors, and contractors in a fast-paced environment. Strong hands-on experience, time management, and adaptability to shifting priorities are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain project documents: Instrument Location Plans, I/O Lists, Control Panel Layouts, Loop Diagrams
• Specify/select instrumentation and develop datasheets and bid packages
• Support procurement and conduct technical bid evaluations
• Design and implement automated control strategies
• Commission systems onsite, ensuring compliance with hazardous area classifications
• Troubleshoot analog/discrete signals and various communication protocols (HART, Profibus, Modbus, etc.)
• Collaborate across disciplines to integrate process, mechanical, and automation systems
• Perform field service work and travel regionally during commissioning

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering
• 2+ years of experience in Instrumentation and Controls
• Familiarity with hazardous area classification and UL-508A standards
• Working knowledge of DCS/PLC systems and P&IDs
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Procore and BlueBeam preferred
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills
